The first section of the third plant of Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co Ltd began operating in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, on April 12.
A number of representatives, including Zhou Xianwang, mayor of Wuhan, Zhu Yanfeng, chairman of Dongfeng Motor Corporation, and Li Shaozhu, general manager of Dongfeng Motor, attended the launch ceremony, where the first vehicle manufactured by the new plant was showcased.
Dongfeng Honda was established in July 2003, and construction on the company's third plant began in December 2016. It covers a total area of 983,000 square meters and is divided into two sections.
The first section has already begun operating with an annual production capacity of 120,000 vehicles. It will employ around 1,800 people and produce vehicles such as the CR-V, CIVIC, and XR-V.
The second section is expected to begin operating in 2020, also with a capacity of 120,000 vehicles.
The plant will also begin producing new energy vehicles sometime in the near future.
