New public kindergarten opens in WHDZ

Updated: 2019-03-11

A new kindergarten officially opened for parents living in Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) on Feb 27.

The tech zone in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province already has a number of education providers and two more kindergartens are expected to open this autumn, creating a total of 1,170 preschool places.

The new kindergarten is adjacent to Wuhan sports center and can accommodate approximately 360 children. It enrolled three classes last spring and has another three ready to enroll this autumn.

Facilities include an outdoor activity area, a reading room, an art room and even a "physical training base" on the roof.

The kindergarten has been founded with the full support of the local education bureau and meets municipal demonstration standards, said Sun Shuanglin, principal of the kindergarten.

In WHDZ, public kindergartens account for 38 percent of the 22 kindergartens in operation.

While we have made a good start, we aim to increase the number of public kindergartens to 50 percent over the next few years, said the director of the zone's integrated service department.
