WHDZ to reform healthcare policies

Updated: 2018-11-26

Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, central China's Hubei province, announced 10 reform measures regarding healthcare, at a meeting held recently in the zone.

According to the director of the zone's public health bureau, the measures will be enacted between this year and 2020, in order to build an optimized management and medical system in WHDZ, with the aim of making healthcare accessible and affordable for all residents.

Studies suggest that there should be around 16 medical staff per 10,000 people, and the zone is expected to hire more medical staff to improve coverage.

In terms of healthcare costs, government departments will set guidelines to regulate the cost of healthcare, with the aim of making it as affordable as possible.

The zone will focus on reform in four main areas –– medical insurance payouts, the security of drug supplies, pricing, and the organizational structure of basic medical care. The zone authorities aim to ensure that by 2020, 10 reform tasks will be fully implemented, according to the director of the zone's public health bureau.
