Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) lead economic and social development of Hubei province in 2017, with six key economic indicators ranking first in Wuhan, according to recent data.
The zone’s GDP exceeded 140 billion yuan ($22.2 billion) in 2017; the out value of industrial enterprises above designated size (whose annual income main business exceeds 20 million yuan) was 340.3 billion yuan, an increase of 13.7 percent compared to 2016; the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size reached 74 billion yuan, up by 8.2 percent.
The zone’s industrial investment reached 56.6 billion yuan, an increase of 10.6 percent compared to 2016; the local general public budget revenue reached 15.94 billion yuan, up by 16.4 percent; the general public budget total revenue reached 36.43 billion yuan, up by 12.1 percent.
In 2017, WHDZ sought industrial transformation and upgrading, developing industries including automobile, robotics, smart home and general aviation.
A total of 1.18 million automobiles and 13.59 million air conditioners were manufactured in WHDZ, with an average daily production of 3,200 vehicles and 37,000 air conditioners sold all over the world.
Six enterprises in WHDZ have achieved annual output value of more than 10 billion yuan, Dongfeng Honda Automobile being the one over 100 billion yuan.
In 2017, 38 projects were signed and began construction, and 20 projects received investments from Fortune 500 companies and 15 invested by State-owned companies, all of the three figures ranking first in Wuhan.
A number of emerging industries were also attracted to WHDZ, including aviation, hydrogen energy, robotics, and artificial intelligence, whose investment accounted for more than 80 percent of the total.
