Testing center for new energy vehicles established in WHDZ

A testing center for new energy vehicles and auto parts began construction in Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ), central China’s Hubei province, on Dec 20, to promote research and development of new energy vehicles in the zone.

Established by China Automotive Technology and Research Center, the testing center will act as the country’s quality supervision and inspection center for new energy vehicles following completion.

With an investment of 300 million yuan ($45.57 million), construction of the center is due to be completed before 2020. Following completion, the center will test areas such as the safety of vehicles in accidents, batteries, and powertrain assembly for new energy vehicles.

Over the next 10 years, China will witness the transformation and upgrading of the global automobile industry. Development and promotion of new energy vehicle technology has already become a national development strategy.

Dongfeng Motor Corporation in WHDZ is currently developing new energy vehicles. As of May 2016, more than 100 types of new energy vehicle from more than 10 companies in the zone have been listed in the country’s automobile announcement catalogue. 

During the third quarter of 2017, more than 7,000 new energy vehicles were sold by companies in the zone.
