Updated: 2017-10-25

1. Basic Information

Established in May 2005, the Automobile and Auto Parts Industrial Park is one of the eight industrial parks of the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (Hannan), referred to as the WHDZ, and has played an important part in the vehicle production and development of the auto parts industry of China's Motor City.

The total area of the park is 34.79 square kilometers. The north zone (old industrial park) is about 6.73 sq km and renowned as a provincial-level development zone approved by the National Development and Reform Commission and so designated by the provincial government in 2006. The areas of the south and the west zones are 19.11 sq km and 8.95 sq km respectively.

2. Development Orientation

Determined to take advantage of the integrated development of Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone and Hannan district as well as the strategic opportunity of the construction of China’s auto parts manufacturing base, the park focuses on five major industries: high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy and new materials, food bio-medicals, modern services (headquarters economy, health, and pensions), and automobile and auto parts.

Automobile and Auto Parts Industry: Due to the powerful radiation and driving effect of the Dongfeng Motor vehicle production base and three household electrical appliance manufacturing companies (Gree, Midea and Haier), more than 100 related spare parts enterprises have settled in the park in recent years. They include Jiangsu Xincheng Auto Parts Manufacturing Co Ltd, Remarkable Battery Co Ltd and Huada Auto Parts Co Ltd, which have an annual output exceeding 500 million yuan ($75.40 million).

New Energy and New Materials: Led by Wuhan Changli Glass Co Ltd, Remarkable Battery Co Ltd and Zhongyuan Changjiang Science and Technology Park, the development of the new energy and new materials industry is speeding up.

Modern Service Industry: The park has introduced and cultivated the tertiary industry and a group of modern service enterprises such as BLOGIS Holdings Ltd, Yupei Logistics and the Hubei Research and Design Institute of Building Science have settled there.

Food Biomedical Industry: The park is energetically developing a food biomedical industry to build a new engine for economic growth. Dahankou Hot-and-dry Noodles,

Haoke Jiazu Food Technology Co Ltd, Changxing Foods Co Ltd and Tallyho Biological Products Co Ltd are among the park’s companies in this sector.

Hi-end Equipment Manufacturing: Represented in the park by Goman Heavy Industry Co Ltd and Wuhan Xingzhongshe Automation Co Ltd, the hi-end equipment manufacturing industry has advanced transformation and upgrading of the entire equipment manufacturing industry.

3. Characteristic Industries

Intelligent Manufacturing Industry: The industrial park endeavors to make the intelligent manufacturing industry bigger and stronger and promotes the formation of a new manufacturing industry system. Many enterprises in the park have built successions of intelligent workshops and 500 robots have been employed in the park’s leading industries.

New Energy and New Materials Industry:The industrial park has accelerated the construction of a Changli LOW-E glass deep-processing base and formed a complete industry chain for auto glass; it has also supported Wuhan Voltec Energy Sources Co Ltd in its aim of being the largest base for the lithium battery and silicon photocell industry in China.

4. Construction Achievements

Entity Enterprises:There are more than 300 enterprises in the park, 30 of which are foreign and 110 of which are above designated size, employing 20,000 workers in total. By the end of 2016, the total output value of the above-scale industries in the park had reached 20 billion yuan, the output value of the strategic emerging industries had increased by 18.9%, the 25 hi-tech enterprises had realized an increase of 18.1% in output value, and the output value of the intelligent manufacturing industry had risen by 18.2%. The park has played an important role in leading the economic development and industrial transformation of WHDZ.

Infrastructure Construction: Through nearly ten years' of development and construction, the old industrial park has been equipped with consummate infrastructure facilities. They include 6.73 sq km of road network and on-going construction of a neighborhood service center. Facilities for production and daily life have also been installed and now provide a favorable environment. The construction of the new industrial park has anticipated expansion: the grids of water, electricity, roads, gas and communication have gone smoothly, and six trunk roads in the “Doubling Zone” of industrial development have been completed or are under construction. Construction of the neighborhood service center (including accommodation, catering, shopping and entertainment) is moving forward, and subways, buses, wharfs and expressways are providing the park with convenient transportation.

Talent Cultivation: The park and its enterprises attach great importance to research and development of innovative projects and talent introduction. To date, there are four doctorates, 67 masters degree holders, 594 personnel with bachelor degrees and 1455 with associate degrees working there, and some key enterprises have established strategic cooperation relations with dozens of colleges and universities, including Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Huazhong Agricultural University.

5.Development Prospects

The scale of the Automobile and Auto Parts Industrial Park will grow larger and the level of the automobile and auto parts manufacturing industry will be further enhanced. Efforts will be made to foster the industries of hi-end equipment manufacturing, electronic information, environmental protection new energy and new materials. In order to become the first choice of auto parts in Motor City and an important intelligent manufacturing base, the park will implement the “Doubling Plan” in industrial development, boost the transformation and upgrading of the pillar industries, cultivate and strengthen the strategic emerging industries and strive to develop a producer services industry.
