Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) is undergoing a vibrant transformation through a comprehensive urban renewal initiative focused on spatial restructuring, industrial upgrades, and enhancing quality of life.

A highlight among the changes is the South Taizi Lake innovation valley, which combines historic red brick buildings, lush greenery, and picturesque lake views. The area, covering over 1 million square meters of 1990s-era factory buildings, has been revitalized by preserving the original structural framework and red brick facades while modernizing the interiors.

It now hosts the Wuhan Intelligent Automobile Software Park, attracting more than 4,000 automotive software companies, including Neusoft Corporation and Ecarx.

Meanwhile, at the southern foot of Dajun Mountain, a cluster of abandoned 1970s buildings has been transformed into the Dajun Mountain Science and Innovation Park, becoming a hub for projects that integrate research and development, pilot testing, manufacturing, commercial facilities, and exhibition centers.

WEDZ is also implementing measures to renew old residential areas. A notable example is the Guo Xuling area renewal project, launched in 2024 with a total investment exceeding 10 billion yuan ($1.50 billion). It benefits 3,020 households and over 15,000 residents.

The zone has also been working to improve convenient services related to education, healthcare, elderly care, and leisure.
