Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) is witnessing promising advancements from its sci-tech innovation fund, established in 2025.

The fund recently invested in three pioneering hard tech projects: Guangqi Future, Draking Semiconductor, and Matevo Chemicals, covering sectors such as sensors, semiconductors, and new materials.

Guangqi Future is at the forefront of optoelectronic detection sensor technology, focusing on the research and industrialization of its α-spectral semiconductor radon sensor.

This innovation fills a critical gap in China's radon detection industry, with applications across environmental monitoring, metallurgy, coal chemical industries, and energy sectors.

Draking Semiconductor specializes in the research and manufacture of high-end semiconductor equipment. With core technologies like fiber laser detection and precision visual probes, Draking has developed advanced wafer dicing machines.

Its hub-type hard knife technology is at the forefront domestically, overcoming technical bottlenecks in semiconductor subfields and bolstering regional semiconductor equipment localization and supply chain autonomy.

Matevo Chemicals is dedicated to designing and manufacturing high-throughput equipment, addressing automation challenges in chemical research laboratories.

Its versatile products cater to frontier fields such as biopharmaceuticals and new materials, bridging a regional gap in high-end scientific research equipment and accelerating the commercialization of scientific research outcomes.

The 1 billion yuan ($148 million) fund is directed toward WEDZ's modern industrial system, with a focus on emerging industries such as new energy and intelligent connected vehicles, new materials, and the low-altitude economy.

The fund has signed investment agreements with 10 companies and completed investment disbursements to eight, with INNO Sensing standing out. INNO Sensing is developing and designing hardware for smart sensors and cockpits for new energy and intelligent connected vehicles.

A representative from WEDZ emphasized that the fund will continue to enhance collaboration with local investment institutions and promote the in-depth integration of industrial, innovation, talent, and capital chains.
